Sports Fixtures Autumn term round-up

We have had a bumper term of success with sports. Not only have our students performed exceptionally well across all sports but more importantly they continue to be great ambassadors for the school. Special commendation also goes to the students that were involved in our inter-house sports fixtures at the beginning of the half term. Below is an overview of the latest round up of sports fixtures this term.

Year 7 Netball

The attendance from Year 7 girls has been wonderful, we could fill four or five teams! There are a large number of girls showing real promise, this has meant many have been rotating on match nights. Well done to all and those who have played so far and have held a winning streak.

Year 8 Netball

Year 8s have only had two games this term, but have had strong wins in both. Winning 28-18 in a high scoring game against St Michaels, and 7-4 against Joan of Arc. Well done to our two players of the matches Summer and Clover. The girls have been working well together and have developed a really strong team. Keep it up girls!

Year 9 Netball

What a fabulous start to the netball season this year. Starting with St Michael's back in September the girls played fantastic netball together resulting in the win (17-3). Following this we continued as a successful team with a win against Bushey Meads and St. Joan of Arc. Players of the match have been awarded to Miss Henry and Miss Lacey during these games and as a result of their drive and determination, as well as their high level of fair play, they have been given the role of captains. Their role is to build greater, stronger team dynamics and to continue to raise the positive encouragement the team shares during games. With games scheduled for the New Year, we hope this winning streak continues.

Year 10 Netball

Year 10s have had a strong start to the season this year, and they are our first team to play in League A so we are playing some new schools! A tough first game and loss against Hab’s, followed by a win against Immanuel. We have a really strong Year 10 team, with lots of girls attending training and forming a solid team. Keep up the hard work!

Year 11 Netball

This term we have seen some excellent progress individually and as a team in Year 11. After losing our first game, all the girls worked together and have been attending training. This hard work paid off at the District tournament. We are looking forward to the matches in the New Year after finishing 4th in our section of the district tournament.

Year 7 Boys’ Football

An outstanding season, maintaining their place in the division. Now that roles and positions have been established we’re looking forward to what this team can produce next year! With more training and better understanding of the game we will be more secure and push for the top half of the table.

Year 8 Boys’ Football

The Year 8 boys’ football team have enjoyed a successful term reaching the third round of the County Cup with victories against Townsend (St Albans) and Priory Academy (Hitchin). They have also performed well in the District League with several matches. The boys have made good progress in a relatively short period of time.

Girls’ U15 Football

Croxley Danes U15 girls' football team produced another terrific win beating Watford Girls' 3 - 1. The girls showed terrific grit and determination to turn the game around after going down 1 - 0 in the first half. Goals coming from Charlotte G and Elizabeth M meant the team have now recorded back to back wins and are feeling the festive cheer going into their next game.

Rugby

This half term also saw all KS3 boy year groups play in a rugby union development tournament at Watford Rugby Club. In the spirit of the RFU, it was not a scored tournament, however it gave our students an opportunity to understand rugby in a safe and structured way. County Cup games and other development tournaments will be coming next term.

Cross-Country
A fantastic cross-country event this year which saw 15 schools from Watford and Three Rivers battle for the cross-country crown. I am extremely proud of the runners and the efforts that they put in on the day! We did have some outstanding performances: Summer, Year 8 who finished third, Jack, Year 9 finishing fourth, James, Year 9 finishing seventh and Bradley, Year 9 finishing eighth.
