An Inspirational Visit from the United Nations Patron of the Oceans, Lewis Pugh

On Tuesday, 28th April, the school was privileged to host a truly distinguished guest: Lewis Pugh, the world-renowned endurance swimmer and United Nations Patron of the Oceans. Often referred to as the ‘Human Polar Bear,’ Lewis took time out of his busy schedule preparing for pioneering swims and speaking with world leaders, to address pupils from Years 9, 10, and 12.

Lewis shared gripping and inspiring accounts of his record-breaking expeditions, from the freezing waters of the North Pole to the coral ecosystems of the Red Sea. However, his message extended far beyond his physical feats. He challenged our students to think about what it takes to ‘achieve the impossible’ and how this can be done with the right mindset.

His journey serves as a masterclass in psychological and physical fortitude. He demonstrated that with disciplined preparation, resilience, and a refusal to accept a limit on what is achievable, one can navigate even the most extreme adversity.

The session left a lasting impression on all in attendance and was an excellent way to launch our renewed commitment to our character education programme. Our pupils exited the hall not only in awe of his endurance but empowered to pursue their own goals with purpose.

We extend our most sincere gratitude to Lewis Pugh for his time and for challenging our school community to recognise that we are all capable of making a significant, positive impact when we put our minds to it.
