Year 10 Geographers Explore the Azores in Unforgettable Field Trip
Over the May half term, 35 of our Year 10 Geography students embarked on an exciting five-day expedition to the volcanic islands of the Azores – a truly memorable adventure packed with learning, discovery, and awe-inspiring landscapes.
Staying on the lush island of São Miguel – often referred to as the “Green Isle” – the group explored some of the island’s most iconic natural features, including the breathtaking Sete Cidades crater, a dramatic landscape shaped by ancient volcanic activity.
The trip was filled with hands-on learning experiences and plenty of adventure. Highlights included a hike up to Caldeira Velha, where students enjoyed a dip in the island’s famous geothermal jungle pools – and even braved a plunge under a chilly waterfall! They also visited local pineapple and tea plantations to deepen their understanding of the region’s agriculture and economy, and spent time soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of Ponta Delgada during the Espírito Santo festival.
It was a week of challenge, curiosity, and lasting memories. A huge well done to all our Year 10 Geographers – you represented the school brilliantly and embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and maturity.
We look forward to more fieldwork adventures to come!
