University of Hertfordshire Taster Day

The University of Hertfordshire Taster Day on 8th June 2023 welcomed Year 12 students from Croxley Danes School, aiming to introduce them to university life and inspire their ambitions. The event offered a range of engaging activities to explore the university experience.

Students had the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops and lectures related to their chosen subjects. This allowed them to get a taste of university-style learning and understand what it's like to be a university student.

The event also included informative talks on student support topics such as personal statements, student finance, and admissions guidance. Students received practical advice to help them navigate the university application process successfully.

Interactive question-and-answer sessions were hosted by current students and staff, offering first-hand insights into student life. Students learned about degree apprenticeships, work placements, and studying abroad, expanding their horizons and exploring different paths for their future.

Guided tours of the College Lane and de Havilland campuses showcased the modern facilities, including the Hertfordshire Sports Village. Additionally, students had the opportunity to explore the university's accommodation options through self-guided tours.

Throughout the day, students were supported by friendly staff and ambassadors, who provided campus maps and assistance in finding their way around. They were able to visit the Hutton Hub to learn about support services and the Library to familiarise themselves with the facilities and meet the team.

The event concluded with some students sampling a refreshing treat from the ice cream van at College Lane, adding to the enjoyable experience. The campus cat also brought a touch of charm to the day.

Overall, the University of Hertfordshire Taster Day was a great success. Our Year 12 students gained valuable insights into university life, fostering their aspirations and shaping their academic considerations. It is our hope that this event has inspired them to pursue their dreams and further explore university or degree apprenticeships as a potential academic destination.
