Ellie takes gold at World Championships

There can't be many Year 7s in the country who can legitimately say they are World Champion in their sport, but Ellie Harber returned to school today able to say just that. She travelled to Kiev last week to represent England in the disciplines of Muay Thai and K1 Light, both forms of kickboxing. On Friday she won bronze in the K1 Light European event, whilst on Saturday she triumphed in the title fight in the World Championships for Muay Thai.

This would be an achievement in itself, but in both of these events, Ellie is a relative novice, most of her fights to date having been in the K1 class.

Ellie described herself as 'unbelievably happy' to do so well on this world stage in her sport. Fighting this year in the 10-12 age group, hers was one of 8 gold medals won by English athletes of all ages in Ukraine. Ellie trains hard at her club Lions Watford who were very proud of their athletes' achievements. More information and photos from the event can be found on their Facebook Page.

Many congratulations, Ellie. We are all very proud of you!
