School's first charity initiative launched

Danes Student Journalist, Yousuf Sayed (7S), reports ...

The Student Union members, with the help of Miss Brewer, Mr Thompson and the Sixth Form Prefects, are beginning the process of organising a charity day for the school. They think that this could be a great way to bring the school together to raise as much money as they can for charity. The way it’s going to work is that every form will have a responsibility for a stall at the event, where they will sell items or run an activity. They can be as creative as they possibly can with this. This will be held in the Sports Hall at lunchtime in the last week of term. We can’t wait to see all of this in action!

We will be raising money for the Peace Hospice Care and Meningitis Now. Our aim is to help make a difference in the number of patients they help every year.

Here is a little bit of information about what the Peace Hospice Care do: Peace Hospice Care offer support to those who are suffering life-limiting illnesses. They provide a day service, hospice at home and supportive care. They also work with schools, colleges and care homes providing them with educational support that will benefit their life. Hospice Care provides specialist care for those facing a life-limiting illness, their families and their care-givers.

Meningitis now: One of the school’s parents, Mrs Burns, came in to speak to us in assembly about Meningitis Now – a charity she is supporting by running the London Marathon. She spoke about the importance of this charity to the family, following her daughter’s illness as a baby.

Meningitis is the inflammation of the membranes that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Some bacteria that cause meningitis can also cause septicaemia (blood poisoning). They are dedicated to fighting meningitis in the UK.
