Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition

On 18th - 20th March students embarked on their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition. Students were in good spirits on Friday morning checking their equipment and doing some map reading and navigation refresher skills for the days and nights ahead.  They set off from Croxley Danes at 12pm and walked to Phasels Woods in Hemel Hempstead via Sarratt and Chipperfield, where they camped for the night. After a not so great night’s sleep students woke the next morning ready for the second leg to Braid Wood Scout Camp. During the second day pupils walked through the beautiful Chilterns countryside and reported seeing deers, foxes, birds of prey, as well as several cats! Pupils spent a second night camping under clear skies - thank you to Mrs Ingham and Mrs McBride for the astronomy lesson. After a colder second night the brave few continued on their walk to the finishing line at Ashley Green.  For many it was a weekend of firsts: first time camping, first time staying away from home and even the first time walking such a great distance. Congratulations to all the students who took part and thank you to all the staff and parents who helped out over the weekend. We are looking forward to the upcoming expedition to the Cotswold in the summer term.
