In the last week of last term our Read Around the World book group had the opportunity of a live link up with well-known journalist and author, Joanne O’Connell.
Joanne’s book ‘Beauty and the Bin’ is out in February and we were very excited to be offered the chance to read the book ahead of its publication date and also enjoy a video conference with the author. The book is about a young girl named Laurie, her friendships, family and being a young eco warrior. It was inspired by Joanne’s time writing a regular column on food waste for the Guardian.
Joanne spoke about her inspiration for writing the book and was able to answer questions from our students which ranged from ‘Why did you want to be an author?’ to ‘How easy was it to get your book published?’.
The students all took home a copy of the book over the Christmas period and our next task is to write and record some book reviews for publication on Joanne’s website.
